Who is responsible?
Neyðarþjónusta Austurlands ehf. operates Towing.is and is responsible for the personal information the business receives through enquiries and service requests. Contact towing@towing.is with privacy questions.
Enquiries and assistance
When you contact us, we receive the information you provide, such as your name, telephone number, email address, vehicle details, location and description of the problem. We use it to reply, find you and arrange or provide assistance. Employees can access this information for that work. We process service requests to take steps towards or perform a service contract. Keeping correspondence for follow-up and disputes serves our legitimate interest in documenting communications and services provided.
Sharing your location
Send your location asks your browser for your position only after you press the button. If you allow access, WhatsApp opens with a map link and estimated accuracy in a prepared message. You press Send in WhatsApp yourself. The website does not track your movements or store your coordinates in a database. Once sent, the message forms part of your WhatsApp conversation with us. You can call instead of sharing your location.
Keeping correspondence
Messages remain in WhatsApp or Messenger, depending on the channel you use. Emails are kept as records of communications and service, including where issues arise with rental companies. Retention depends on the need for follow-up, resolving disputes and applicable legal obligations. Contact us for information about particular correspondence or to request its deletion.
Website, maps and cookies
Netlify hosts this website and may process IP addresses and technical connection information to deliver and secure it. Fonts and photographs load from this website. No analytics or advertising tags are active, and the website itself does not set cookies. Google Maps loads only after you select Load Google Maps. Your browser then connects to Google, which may process connection information and use cookies. You can close the map again; this does not erase information already received by Google.
Other service providers
WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Google also process information under their own privacy policies when you use their services. Netlify provides hosting, and an email service handles email correspondence. These providers may process information outside the European Economic Area; their policies describe their processing locations and applicable safeguards.
Your rights
You can request access to your information and ask us to correct it. Depending on the circumstances, you may also request deletion, restriction or portability, or object to processing. You may withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. Contact towing@towing.is to exercise your rights. You can also complain to Persónuvernd, the Icelandic Data Protection Authority.
